Senior Software Engineer – Big Data

Position Summary

We are looking for a talented Big Data Software Engineer to join the Applied Intelligence group in San Francisco.  Applied Intelligence derives actionable intelligence from our data to optimize massive scale operation of datacenters worldwide.  We are developing innovative software in big data analytics, predictive modeling, simulation, machine learning and automation.

This is a green-fields development position for a passionate and experienced engineer.  The senior engineer will have input on the big data infrastructure and will build software and infrastructure for analytics, reports and alarming.  The senior engineer will also take a lead role in interfacing with customer groups to understand their needs and tailor reports to enable data-driven decisions across key business areas.  The senior engineer will have a great deal of freedom in choosing the right tools for the job, and will have strong support in getting it right.

Primary Responsibilities

Projects will involve designing and building a new system in the following areas:

• Analytics Infrastructure:  Hadoop, HDFS, HBase or Cassandra, Pig or Hive
• Understand customer needs and work collaboratively to deliver impactful reports
• A strong emphasis on data validation, testing, getting it right and knowing it stays right
• Work collaboratively to deliver data in visually impactful ways
• Backend system automation
• Take ownership of key components of the architecture powering Applied Intelligence analytics

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience (Ph.D. a plus)
• Two or more years development experience building large-scale, distributed, high-volume systems.
• Self-driven problem solver
• Taking ownership of new and challenging problems
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Excellent knowledge of Java, C++, C# or Python
• Passion for innovation and consistent high-quality delivery

Preferred

• Modular code, test-driven development, quick iterations involving stakeholders
• Thrive solving challenging problems in a cross-disciplinary environment
• Driven by pursuit of elegant solutions
• Track record in building big data analytics solutions in strong companies
